Residents of Chula Vista brace yourself for a smoother sail ahead, but not before hitting a bit of a snag. The City of Fort Lauderdale has teamed up with FG Construction (FGC) to give the neighborhood's stormwater system a much-needed scrub-down. Announced in a recent press release, the project is set to kick off on March 27, and aims to run through May. The teams will be inspecting and cleaning out the guts of the system, all in a bid to keep residents' feet dry by staving off the flood risks that come with South Florida's wet season.
Work is scheduled between the bright and early hours of 7 a.m. and the brink of evening at 6 p.m. from Monday to Friday. While this might come as a headache to some, the limited lane closures should soften the blow, as the majority of the work is tucked away on the shoulders of several local streets, including SW 17th Street through SW 28th Way. And while the construction crews do their dance with pipes and drains, driveway access will remain untouched – a silver lining for those worried about getting boxed in.
If you're planning on zipping through these parts, keep your eyes peeled for the signs and maybe take a chill pill on the gas pedal. The city understands this is a bit of a bother and extends its apologies to the folks in Chula Vista for any inconvenience caused, all the while tipping their hat for the patience shown. Let's face it, better to deal with some closed lanes now than a living room that's been mistaken for an indoor pool later on.
