It's been a long two years for Kiwi, a terrier mix with a heart just waiting to be loved—a scenario all-too-common in the world of abandoned and rescue pets. Located at the Bulverde Area Humane Society (BAHS), Kiwi remains unclaimed, her only desire a family to call her own. According to KENS 5, she arrived at the shelter in April 2022, with no chip and no human, her past a puzzle left unsolved.
Kiwi's journey has been marked by a tough stipulation, likely a hinderance in her adoption efforts. As Penny LaFlam, the Dog Coordinator at BAHS, detailed, "When she was brought to us she was injured." She bore the marks of a dog attack, which has resulted in her reactive nature toward other dogs. Despite this, she has an abounding love for people, children included.
Her love of leisurely couch moments is matched by her joy in sniffing the outdoor world on walks, a balance that renders her a suitable companion across a spectrum of activities. LaFlam added, "Kiwi is really smart and very food and treat motivated," a fact noted during her stay at the shelter. Her intelligence is matched with a penchant for brushing, and an affectionate tendency to cover her human friends with licks.
Beyond just companionship, Kiwi comes prepared with a complete bill of health. She is "spayed, microchipped, heartworm and chagas negative, and fully vaccinated," as per the BAHS dog coordinator's information. Further incentives include a free "Glow Up" Day at the Spa courtesy of Lucy's Doggy Daycare & Spa, for the lucky family that welcomes her into their home. This spa day will not, only provide a fresh start for Kiwi, but also continues the legacy of support for rescue dogs.
