A routine patrol turned into a high-speed chase Monday night when Cook County Sheriff's Police attempted to stop a stolen vehicle in Glenwood, only for the driver and passengers to race off and ultimately ditch the car on a dead-end street, officials said.
The confrontation began around 8 p.m. when the police noticed the car, reported stolen out of Chicago. The suspects tried to escape, "driving recklessly by cutting off cars, speeding, and striking the median," according to the Sheriff's Office Facebook page. Despite their efforts, the culprits reached a dead end, spilling out of the vehicle and attempting to flee on foot. In the chaos, one of the suspects dropped a loaded firearm which had also been stolen.
Authorities managed to apprehend all four individuals, recovering multiple weapons including additional stolen firearms. The details of the capture were not immediately disclosed, but the sheriff’s office highlighted the incident as an active investigation while commending the officers for their "diligence and service."
"All individuals were caught along with the multiple weapons they had on them, including more stolen firearms," reported the Cook County Sheriff's Police. The arrest underscored ongoing issues with stolen vehicles and firearms in the region, a concern that has seen various law enforcement agencies stepping up patrols and enforcement efforts.
