A fatal car accident in Coral Gables shut down a significant portion of LeJeune Road early Monday morning as police launched an investigation into the tragedy. The Coral Gables Police Department announced that both northbound and southbound lanes are closed between the 1400 and 1600 blocks, urging drivers to seek alternative routes to avoid the area, as reported by NBC Miami.
The collision occurred at an intersection between Mendoza Avenue and SW 14th Street. On the scene, a vehicle was captured on aerial footage by WSVN laying overturned, with its roof crushed inward amidst a scattering of debris and damaged palm trees, suggesting it had been westbound prior to the crash.
While details about the victim or possible additional victims have not been released, the presence of a medical examiner arriving on site around 6:30 a.m. confirmed there was at least one fatality. Coral Gables Police took to social media, namely Twitter, to communicate the ongoing investigation about the crash, as indicated in a Coral Gables Police Department on X.
