A 21-year-old Coral Springs man, identified as Alexander Figueroa, is facing attempted murder and aggravated battery charges after a chilling incident where he allegedly attacked and stabbed his own parents post embarking on a THC vape-induced frenzy.
Details emerging from court documents and police reports explain that Figueroa, alongside his cousin, smoked a THC vape pen which led to odd questioning and erratic behaviors, asking "Where do you want to go, to heaven or hell?" and demanding the removal of shirts, this blurring the lines of a tranquil evening into the prelude of violence, his cousin refrained from walking far which triggered an aggressive response from Figueroa who then proceeded to smash his cousin's phone, his family putting up a search when he started roaming the neighborhood, as stated by Local 10 News. In an attempt to bring him back, Figueroa's mother and cousin got him into a car, where his volatility escalated to the extent of trying to kick out a car window.
Upon arriving home, Figueroa locked himself inside and was later seen by family members through the window screaming and naked before erupting onto the driveway where he brutally stabbed and repeatedly punched his mother and then turned his aggression onto his father, causing a severe abdominal laceration, authorities said according to NBC Miami. Amidst the turmoil, Figueroa also attempted to attack the family dog before his mother managed to flee and call 911 for help.
Figueroa's father was found by officers in the master bedroom, bearing a gruesome stomach wound with "his bowels exposed" and he confirmed his son as the assailant, noting that Alexander had been dealing with mental issues for some time, according to the arrest report obtained by Local 10 News, his mother suffering a significant head injury, upon their discovery Figueroa was arrested and is currently held without bond and under a court-ordered mental health evaluation. A Thursday court hearing has been set for Figueroa to face the state's pre-trial detention motion, which argues for his continued incarceration prior to trial.
