Tires went pop and tempers flared on I-20 yesterday, as Dallas drivers hit a nasty surprise. A rogue pothole near Bonnieview Rd turned the highway into a rubber graveyard. The Dallas County Sheriff's Department, rushed to the scene after numerous vehicles suffered flat tires, courtesy of the road menace.
A statement from the Dallas County Sheriff's Department said, "Dallas County Sheriff's Department Traffic Deputies located a large pothole/damaged roadway in the center-right lane." Drivers are advised to watch their wheels and expect delays since lanes will remain closed until the pavement plague is handled. A patch job by TxDot yesterday didn't stick, now they're on deck to take another swing at it come 10 am today.
About 15 unlucky motorists weren't fast enough to dodge the pitfall, finding themselves stranded with flat tires. The Dallas County Sheriff's Department detailed the aftermath on their Facebook page, issuing a warning to those navigating that stretch of I-20. The department's notice pointed out the quick decay of the temporary fix, "TxDOT patched this location yesterday, but the patch failed; they are supposed to be back out at approximately 10 am to repair the hole." Two lanes will be out of commission for the duration, planners beware. The pothole's hungry work on tires serves as a stark reminder of the often precarious state of our infrastructure — and the daily roll of the dice that is the morning commute.
