The City of Dallas is calling on its citizens to speak up and shape the future as it opens the floor for public engagement on the upcoming Fiscal Year 2024-25 Budget. Starting March 25, Dallasites will have a chance to let city council members know their priorities and concerns throughout a series of budget town hall meetings slated for various districts, according to the City of Dallas.
The city council listening sessions will span over three days - from March 25 through March 28 - and, will feature both in-person and virtual meetings. Spanning across the Dallas districts, the meetings aim to cater to a wide audience with accommodations such as closed captioning, auto-translation for non-English speakers, and American Sign Language interpretation available upon request.
Interested residents should mark their calendars. Virtual meetings are available for Districts 2, 4, and 14, and for those who prefer face-to-face interaction, District 7's town hall will be hosted at the Skyline Branch Library. District 8 citizens can touch base at the Kleberg Rylie Recreation Center among other locations, with evening sessions for each district.
For the multilingual community of Dallas, the effort to bridge language barriers is evident. Virtual sessions will have Spanish interpretation readily available while on-site Spanish language support can be found in various districts including District 1's meeting at Martin Weiss Recreation Center and District 8 at the Polk Wisdom Library. As per the city's announcement, any specific language or disability-related requests for the meetings should be made by March 22 to ensure every voice can be heard and considered in the budget deliberations.
In addition to these sessions, a special town hall meeting on Saturday, March 30 is scheduled to take place at the Briscoe Carpenter Livestock Center. This session offers the unique option for residents to participate either in-person or via the Telephone Town Hall Meeting (TTHM) for those who prefer to dial in or follow the conversation online.
