A tragic drag racing incident in Troup County, Georgia, turned deadly when a car plowed into spectators, claiming two lives and leaving three others seriously injured on Sunday night, officials reported. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, authorities identified the deceased as Cory Maddox, 42, and Matalito Bass, 47.
The crash occurred shortly before 9 p.m along Antioch Road, where a Chevrolet S-10, engaged in the race, spiraled out of control and rammed into a Chevrolet Trailblazer parked on the road's shoulder the second vehicle involved in the race fled the scene this chaos unfolded before first responders and the Georgia State Patrol troopers could arrive. WSB-TV reports that the driver of the S-10 was among those killed in the tragic event.
The aftermath of the crash prompted a full-scale investigation by the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team, with assistance from the Troup County Sheriff's Office. Witnesses or those privy to information regarding the erratic drag race or the absconding vehicle have been urged by law enforcement to come forth, a sentiment echoed by Troup County Sheriff’s Office in a statement asking the public to contact Trooper Shiver or access the Crime Stoppers line.
