A horrifying ordeal unfolded in DeKalb County as a woman in her 60s was kidnapped and brutalized in a vicious attack after leaving work on Montreal Road. Sources including FOX5 Atlanta and 11Alive report that the victim was abducted on the night of March 26 as she was leaving her accounting firm shortly after the close of business around 5:30 p.m.
The assailant forced his way into the victim's vehicle outside her place of employment and coerced her to withdraw money from an ATM, cutting her body and burning her face during the horrific incident, the victim's family told 11Alive. DeKalb Police have not yet confirmed the suspect's identity or apprehended the individual responsible for the attack. The exact timing of the kidnapping remains unclear.
DeKalb County Fire Captain Shaneqwa Eafford detailed the victim's desperate search for help, stating to 11Alive, "Here in DeKalb, anything can happen, but a walk-up like that, I believe it is rare." The victim miraculously managed to escape and drove to DeKalb County Fire Station 22, where an alert crew member noticed the disturbance and awakened the rest of the team.
The fire crew, fortunately, included an ambulance which was available to provide immediate assistance. "It was a blessing for her to be able to come to us and for us to be here as well," Captain Eafford described in a statement to 11Alive. They then alerted the police, who arrived on the scene around 9 p.m., with officers scrambling to gather evidence that could lead to the suspect's capture.
The woman, who endured at least one surgery following the assault, remains in the hospital. The DeKalb County Police is calling for anyone with information to come forward.
