
Detroit is gearing up to celebrate its pride and heritage on 313 Day, named for the city's area code and taking place on March 13. This annual celebration is welcoming Detroiters with a variety of discounts and special events across the city ranging from free museum admission to delicious $3.13 food deals. As reported by CBS DETROIT, Atwater Brewery is set to offer $3.13 pints throughout the day and a chance to win a Detroit-themed basket later in the evening.
According to WXYZ, the Detroit Pistons are also joining in on the celebrations with a pre-game bash in the Chevy Plaza and special merchandise giveaways for fans prior to their game against the Toronto Raptors. The first 500 fans will receive special Detroit themed t-shirts, and the first 3,130 fans will be gifted Pistons 313 Statement chains. Bilal Saeed, vice president of marketing and brand strategy for the Pistons proclaimed, "313 Day holds a special place in Detroit's heart and the Detroit Pistons are excited to join Ally to recognize this great city and its community at our annual 313 Day game.”
For those looking to grab a meal, the lineup includes Detroit favorites. Mister Dips will be offering all items on their menu for $3.13, situated in Parker's Alley, and open from midday till 10 p.m. Additionally, Michigan First Credit Union is to give away free meal vouchers for community members at Lafayette Coney Island or American Coney Island from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., reported Michigan Chronicle.
If music and the arts are more up your alley, the Shadow Gallery Detroit in Eastern Market is hosting a DJ palooza featuring several DJs for 313 Day. Art and history enthusiasts can enjoy free admission at the Detroit Historical Museum and view a pop-up exhibit featuring work from Tommy Walker of Detroit vs. Everybody. As the Michigan Chronicle notes, the Pistons 313 Day game will also feature live art displays, adding some cultural flair to the sports-centric festivities.
On the wellness front, the Detroit Health and Wellness Fair is taking place and will be free to attend at 9928 Grand River Ave. This community-oriented event seeks to promote exercise, healthy eating, and stress management. In a melding of commerce and celebration, participating McDonald's locations will serve a special 313 Day meal, which includes a Filet-O-Fish, fries, and a Vernors Boston Cooler, with the first 30 customers receiving a free limited-edition t-shirt.
