Motorists in Detroit should brace for a weekend of detours as a key segment of the Lodge Freeway, also known as M-10, is scheduled to shut down for bridge maintenance. The closure will take effect starting at 8 p.m. this Friday, March 15, and will continue through to 5 a.m. Monday, March 18, impacting both the northbound and southbound lanes between I-75 and Grand River Avenue. Detour routes have been outlined to help redirect traffic around the construction zone. This development was confirmed by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).
The MDOT has advised drivers to prepare to detour onto alternate routes while bridge work is underway. Northbound M-10 traffic will be directed to southbound I-75, to westbound I-96, then eastbound I-94, and back to northbound M-10. Those heading southbound will be rerouted onto eastbound M-5, also known as Grand River Avenue, to reach downtown Detroit, as reported by ClickOnDetroit. Additionally, drivers are being urged to consider using I-96, I-94, or I-75 as alternatives for accessing downtown during this period.
In a statement procured by WXYZ, MDOT emphasized the importance of planning for extra travel time due to the expected traffic disruptions and provided detailed detour information to assist drivers. The agency has made it clear that this disruption is essential for maintaining the safety and longevity of the bridge structures within the city's freeway network.
Additional suggested alternate routes to help ease the traffic flow have been shared to reduce the potential build-up in specific areas. Drivers can utilize I-94, then either I-96 or I-75, to access downtown Detroit, aiming to reduce congestion and maintain a smoother flow of vehicles around the affected zone. This guidance comes directly from the Michigan Department of Transportation and was detailed in an announcement published by the Michigan Department of Transportation. Motorists are encouraged to heed these directions and to keep informed on traffic conditions throughout the weekend.
