Chaos erupted in the city of El Cajon as police reported an active shooter incident, thrusting a suburban neighborhood into the spotlight with a surge of law enforcement and emergency response. The harrowing episode left one person dead and two others injured in the 400 block of North Magnolia Avenue, according to authorities. The El Cajon Police Department issued an urgent plea for information about a light-skinned male suspect, last seen fleeing the scene in a white U-haul pickup truck, as confirmed by a statement they released on Facebook.
Subsequently, police identified the suspected gunman as 29-year-old Mohammed Abdulkareem, detailing that he was considered armed and dangerous. The specific detail regarding the Arizona license plate AM14894 of the U-haul pickup truck was disclosed and the suspect was spotted heading northbound on N Mollison Avenue. It was not immediately known what led to the shooting, as per the authorities' update.
Victory came swiftly for justice as the ruthless suspect was arrested later that day. Abdulkareem was located and apprehended after the ECPD took to X, a social media platform, to circulate his image, as well as that of the vehicle used in the escape. The shooting, which broke the peace at Smile Plus Dentistry and Orthodontics, was a brutal affair. FOX5 San Diego obtained a statement from Cpt. Rob Ransweiler detailed that officers performed CPR on victims outside the dental office, and two were taken to the hospital in stable condition.
The area around North Magnolia Avenue at West Madison Avenue remained cordoned off for an undetermined period as investigators scoured the scene. The report by FOX5 San Diego also mentioned that a handgun was the weapon used in the dreadful incident, which saw other individuals present in the dental office during the unsettling events. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will handle identification of the person slain in the violence, and the suspect's vehicle was found near Sixth Avenue and Quince St.
