
An elder Floridian's Sunday bike ride turned tragic when he was killed after crashing his electric bike into a minivan in Dade City. According to FOX 13 News, the 83-year-old Zephyrhills man was riding north on the Withlacoochee State Trail and failed to make a complete stop at a stop sign. His journey met a tragic end when he collided with an eastbound Honda Odyssey on Trilby Road.
The victim was rushed to the hospital following the collision, but succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. The driver of the Honda Odyssey, a 20-year-old woman, was involved in the mishap that unfolded at approximately 11:07 a.m., based on the details released by the Florida Highway Patrol. The authorities confirmed that the elderly man fatally failed to obey the traffic signal that was meant to safely regulate his path along the trail.
ABC Action News reported that the Florida Highway Patrol has indicated no further details about the investigation into the crash. There have been no reports of the younger driver sustaining any injuries. The name of the deceased has yet not been released, as officials are likely still in the process of notifying next of kin.
