A grim discovery was made at a senior living complex in northwest Harris County, where an elderly woman was found shot dead inside her apartment. The Harris County Sheriff's Office responded to a welfare check at the Palisades and Inwood Apartments, located on 5800 W. Mount Houston Road, after the woman's family members could not reach her, FOX 26 Houston reported.
The woman, described as being 81 years old, had sustained a gunshot wound and exhibited signs of trauma. According to Click2Houston, the family members who had been trying to contact her arrived at the scene first, making the horrifying discovery and subsequently alerting authorities.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez indicated that foul play is suspected in the woman's death. The authorities have yet to disclose additional details concerning the incident but have made a public appeal for anyone with surveillance video or knowledge about the situation to come forward.
Detectives are canvassing the area and interviewing potential witnesses as part of the investigation. They are also gathering as much information as possible from relatives regarding the woman's last known activities, "definitely expected," that foul play was involved in her death, the authorities stated.
