Last week, a routine traffic stop escalated into a significant drug and firearm bust on Route 3. Trooper Victoria Thompson, of the State Police-Norwell division, was responding to multiple 911 calls about a white Mercedes driving erratically on February 27. The vehicle was seen speeding and tailgating along Route 3 northbound in Pembroke, as reported by the Massachusetts State Police.

Thompson waited near Exit 32 and saw the Mercedes soon after, prompting her to pull over the driver just before Exit 35 in Rockland. The driver, identified as TAJANAY VEIGA, 28, of Stoughton, appeared agitated during the encounter. According to Massachusetts State Police, VEIGA was reaching towards the vehicle's floor, which necessitated her removal from the car. After becoming non-compliant, VEIGA was handcuffed and secured in the back of the cruiser.

Subsequent to VEIGA's detainment, Trooper Thompson searched the area where VEIGA had been reaching and uncovered a bag containing what was believed to be heroin. VEIGA was arrested on-site, and her vehicle was towed for a comprehensive search at the Norwell Barracks, which led to the discovery of a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol and multiple baggies of narcotics, including suspected Fentanyl, Heroin, Cocaine, Crack Cocaine, Marijuana, and various prescription pills. Scales typically used in narcotics distribution were also found.

VEIGA was booked at the Norwell Barracks after her arrest, with bail set at $2,540 by a bail commissioner. She faces a slew of charges including trafficking in Fentanyl, trafficking in Cocaine, and possession of a firearm in commission of a felony as well as several drug possession counts, outlined by the Massachusetts State Police. VEIGA's arraignment was scheduled at the Hingham District Court.

This case represents an intersection of traffic violations and serious drug offenses, as Trooper Thompson's traffic stop prevented potentially dangerous substances from reaching the streets.
