The grief-stricken relatives of Miranda Gomez, the 24-year-old woman who was fatally shot in a grisly attack last month, are seeking justice, less than a month after the horrific incident shattered their lives. Gomez was killed in the early hours of February 18, as she and friends were returning from a night out, said authorities. The hails of bullets came from an assailant in a shadowy sedan that trailed their car along the 4300 block of Roland Avenue at approximately 5 a.m., according to investigation reports.
"I was in disbelief," Debra Lopez, Gomez's aunt, told KENS5. The family has reportedly received minimal details from the police about the motivations behind the killing. Lopez revealed her sister is immersed in anguish as, for a mother, the prospect of burying her child is a pain so immense it defies consolation or comprehension. "I can't imagine how my sister feels and for a mother to bury her own child, I don't know how to comfort her, it's hard,” she said.
The grim pursuit of justice has led authorities to secure surveillance footage of the shooting, courtesy of a surveillance camera from a nearby apartment. The family, holding on to the slim thread of hope that this footage will accelerate the capture of those responsible, are desperate for answers. Lopez spoke highly of her niece, recounting her generous nature and the tenderness with which she cared for her ailing mother, calling her "a good kid, a great kid."
Faith and the legal system now cradle the family's aspirations for solace. "That way my family can move forward, and my sister can start healing, mourning her daughter,” Lopez shared with KENS5. Crime Stoppers has extended their hand in this pursuit, offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that could lead to an arrest.
