It’s Fiesta time in San Antonio, which means the city is gearing up for its annual celebration, and nothing says party like the medals that have become a staple of the festivities. Spurs Give, the nonprofit arm of Spurs Sports & Entertainment, has launched its 2024 edition Fiesta medals, and by doing so, is aiming to foster community spirit and back local philanthropic efforts. According to FOX San Antonio, the collection this year features City Edition, Coyote, and San Antonio FC medals, each priced at $10, available on the Spurs Fan Shop website.
The organizers running the Night in Old San Antonio (NIOSA) have unveiled their own 2024 Fiesta medals. Celebrating its 76th year, NIOSA is a four-day street festival in the historic La Villita and has become one of the Fiesta's most attended events. The new bling pays tribute to the event’s iconic beer cup and the vibrant Fiesta flowers, symbolically lighting up the event just as the hundreds of volunteers do. As reported by KENS 5, these latest medals went on sale on February 6 and will be available for purchase during the festival at souvenir booths.
The Spurs medals not only serve as festive collectibles, but they are also part of a larger initiative to support the community. Dr. Kara Allen, the Chief Impact Officer at Spurs Sports & Entertainment, stated "We're excited to launch Fiesta with these exclusive medals, not only honoring the essence of San Antonio but also directly contributing to our community through Spurs Give," Every medal purchased funds community programs such as youth scholarships, aligning sports fandom with charitable giving.
The NIOSA medals carry a price tag of $13 each and can be snagged at various locations including Maddie Mac Boutique and the Monarch Trophy Studio website, giving fans and collectors alike the chance to wear their San Antonio pride. NIOSA's festivities, which are hosted by the Conservation Society of San Antonio, will culminate in a buzzing street festival featuring over 150 food booths representing cuisine from all over the globe, from April 18-28. Crowds in the thousands are expected to attend the historic village downtown.
Whether it's sporting the Spurs Give medals or the NIOSA festival medals, San Antonians and visitors alike have the opportunity to dive into a cherished local tradition, while also making a difference in the community. The Fiesta 2024 runs from April 18 through April 28, promising a tapestry of food, fun, and the charitable spirit emblematic of San Antonio’s vibrant community.
