Fire Strikes Turkey Leg Hut's Office in Houston Amidst Company Turmoil, No Injuries ReportedSource: Google Street View

A blaze engulfed the Turkey Leg Hut's business office in Houston's Third Ward early Saturday morning, adding yet another twist to the eatery's recent saga of personal and corporate upheaval. KHOU reports that firefighters responded to the emergency call just after 4 a.m. at the Rosedale Street location. While the fire did significantly damage the office, there were no injuries reported.

The restaurant, a popular spot in Houston since its 2015 opening, has been to recently deal with the fallout from the personal split between the previous co-owners and couple, Nakia Holmes and Lynn Price. Holmes announced the divorce, and subsequently, assumed control of the Turkey Leg Hut, leading to the termination of Price's involvement and the laying off of several staff members. As of yet, there's been no word on what might have caused the fire that ravaged the business office—Eater Houston adds to the developing narrative.

Amidst the chaos at Turkey Leg Hut, the Houston food and drink scene continues to expand with other ventures. Nickel City, an Austin favorite, recently opened a new bar in Houston's East End. The grand opening is slated for March 14. This expansion marks another milestone for Nickel City, which has received high praise for its Jim Beam highballs and a menu featuring tavern wings and pizza logs. Austin-based entrepreneurs Tober, Primozich Craig, and the Hunt brothers first launched Nickel City in 2017, with a subsequent Fort Worth location opening amid the 2020 pandemic.

In lighter news, Houston's restaurant and entertainment scene is set to be uplifted by an all-star performance at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Rapper and local restaurant owner Bun B is to add Drake, his friend and a self-declared fan of Bun B's Trill Burgers, to the "All-American Takeover" concert lineup. Tickets are already up for grabs on the Rodeo's website.
