Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood was awakened early Wednesday morning by the blaze of a fire engulfing a three-story building, requiring a large-scale response from the city's fire department. As reported by FOX 32 Chicago, the Chicago Fire Department was on the scene at 3329 South Morgan Street after a still and box alarm fire was called in just after 6:00 a.m., and, later escalated to a 2-11 alarm as the situation intensified.
Due to the severity of the flames, firefighters adopted a defensive stance, battling the fire that was fierce enough, to warrant additional support. Per the update given by the CFD Media on X, "all companies are defensive." The fire was successfully extinguished approximately 40 minutes later, with the main body of fire put out, and the crews shifting to address the remaining hot spots.

While the fire raged, no injuries were reported, a fortunate outcome given the potential for harm in residential fires. Human services were promptly requested to assist residents displaced by the event, ensuring that those affected by the early morning disaster would not be left without aid or shelter.
The fire's cause has yet to be determined and updates will follow as investigators piece together the events that led to the conflagration. After the flames were controlled, the 2-11 alarm was "struck out on orders of 2-1-10." indicating that the situation was under control and that operations were beginning to wind down. As the story develops, and more information comes to light, further updates are expected to be provided by authorities.
