A Flowery Branch man is facing a slew of charges after police say he brutally attacked a teenage driver during a road rage incident, leaving the young man unconscious and threatening harm to his teenage sister. The altercation occurred on February 28, and law enforcement officials apprehended the suspect on March 3, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department.
Duane Andrew Sudderth, 57, was arrested after he reportedly followed the 18-year-old victim and his 15-year-old sister down Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, initiating a violent confrontation in a private driveway. The teenage driver claimed to have exchanged hand gestures with Sudderth before being chased, detailing to officers that Sudderth attempted to forcefully run him off the road. This road rage saga escalated rapidly, culminating in Sudderth punching the teen "repeatedly in the face through the window," as told to FOX 5 Atlanta.
Action was taken against Sudderth after an intensive investigation that included the usage of the Flock Safety System, which helped authorities to track the owner of the blue truck Sudderth was driving. The North Precinct Community Response Team made contact with him at his home and took him into custody. According to AtlantaNewsFirst.com, he is currently being held without bond.
Police have charged Sudderth with aggravated battery, two counts of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, cruelty to children in the first degree, cruelty to children in the third degree, entering auto, and aggressive driving. The teenage victim reported that Sudderth also made a vile threat to sexually assault what he believed to be the young driver's girlfriend but who was, in reality, his 15-year-old sister. "The suspect continued to punch him even as he exited the vehicle," police stated in a release obtained by AtlantaNewsFirst.com. "Eventually, the victim lost consciousness. When he awoke, he called the police to report the incident."
