A standoff in Forest Hill this past weekend ended peacefully when local police managed to apprehend a man after several hours, authorities said. The Forest Hill Police Department received a disturbance call and dispatched officers to the scene, where an individual, who was not a resident, had barricaded himself inside the home. According to a statement from the Forest Hill Police Department, the subject was armed with a knife and machete and was making threatening statements.
FHPD officers developed a plan and continued to engage the subject in attempts to de-escalate the volatile situation. Making statements that were suicidal and homicidal, the tense encounter required officers to resort to less-lethal tactics. The department reported that through their efforts, nobody was harmed during the incident, including the involved officers and the subject. He was later detained for a mental health evaluation.
The police department praised the response of the officers and acknowledged the backing of various local agencies. "We’d like to thank our dispatchers at Tarrant County Regional Communications - TCRC, Tarrant County Sheriff's Office, and the Everman Police Department for their assistance," the FHPD said.
