A former Griffin Police Department officer, D'Marquivius Jamon "DJ" King, has been indicted on a charge of violating his oath of office in connection with a flawed murder investigation. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), King's indictment by a Spalding County Grand Jury stems from his alleged mishandling of the Javarreis Reid murder case.
Investigations reveal that while King was working as an investigator, he came across evidence implicating his brother, Damon Beck, in the murder of Reid. Despite this discovery, it is alleged that DJ King neglected to conduct a proper investigation. The Grand Jury indicted King on March 20, after evidence was presented against him. He turned himself in two days later and is currently being held at the Spalding County Jail.
King's breach of duty came to light after the Griffin Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office requested a GBI investigation into his conduct on February 28, 2023. Following a thorough investigation, the findings were handed over to the District Attorney's Office, who then proceeded with the prosecution.
The GBI has called for anyone with information regarding the case to step forward. They've made avenues for tips available via phone at 706-565-7888, through their online submission form, or via the See Something, Send Something mobile app. These details come on the heels of the agency's efforts to bolster community involvement in law enforcement accountability.
