A former employee of Social Circle City Schools finds herself on the wrong side of the law, charged with serious offenses involving a child. Mary Elizabeth Gaddis, hailing from Covington, was arrested and is facing felony charges for allegedly enticing a child for indecent purposes and child molestation, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office.
The arrest took place on March 18, after an alert was raised at the Social Circle High School on March 15. Reports from FOX 5 Atlanta detail that Gaddis has since posted bond and been released from jail. Details leading up to the arrest have not been disclosed by either the sheriff’s office or the district.
In response to the allegations, a statement from Social Circle City Schools obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta affirmed the district's awareness of the inappropriate relationship claims. "Social Circle City Schools is aware of the recent allegations regarding an employee’s inappropriate relationship with a student, and we want to assure our community that we are cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities. The staff member in question is no longer an employee of our district," the school district explained. They further underscored their commitment to the safety and emotional well-being of their students while maintaining their cooperation with the ongoing legal investigation.
The community has expressed concerns over the recent arrest, with several individuals reaching out to The Walton Tribune with their unease. As the matter progresses in the legal system, the school district has refrained from further comment.
