A deadly dispute over a romantic entanglement turned lethal in Fort Worth's bustling West 7th entertainment district, where Karlove Palmer is accused of gunning down Bryson Rodgers following a heated altercation, Fort Worth police declared in a warrant, capturing Palmer's alleged actions on a grim Saturday night.
The quarrel reached a tragic climax after Rodgers mimicked a slap at Palmer from across the street and Palmer challenged Rodgers to an actual confrontation, according to an affidavit obtained by Fort Worth Star-Telegram, prompting Rodgers to appear ready for a physical fight before Palmer allegedly fired five shots; it appears Rodgers never physically engaged with Palmer, the affidavit detailed.
Palmer voluntarily surrendered to Tarrant County authorities on Monday night, as per statements released by his legal representation from the Law Offices of Gill and Brissette, where they stated, "Karlove surrendered himself tonight to the Tarrant County Sheriff in order to expedite the investigation," adding that they urge for the public to maintain Palmer's presumption of innocence and withhold judgment until all facts surface, as per Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Crucial to the case, video footage and eyewitness testimonies indicate no physical escalation preceded the shooting, Detective Joey McAnally described in the warrant, though Fort Worth police found five 9mm shell casings at the scene and security camera footage displayed Palmer entering a vehicle immediately after the incident, the car's registration traced back to him, while another video captured three of the fatal shots with Palmer standing several feet away from Rodgers who seemed unarmed and ducking from gunfire.
This incident is not Palmer's first run-in with the law, as court records unveil a history of prior convictions, including one in 2017 for unlawfully carrying a weapon in a zone prohibited near a school and another for tampering with government records – both leading to prison sentences, asserted a report by AllSides. Fort Worth police spokesman Officer Daniel Segura hinted at the possibility of additional charges being deliberated in the coming days.
