A woman reported missing near Lake Park in Lewisville was found dead in Lewisville Lake on Monday morning, roughly a day after crews launched an extensive search using boats, sonar, water drones and aircraft. Police say the death appears to have resulted from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and investigators have not found any evidence of foul play.
Search Began After Missing Person Report
The operation started after the Lewisville Fire Department reported a missing person, according to a Lewisville Police Department post on Facebook. Lewisville police officers responded to Lake Park, and the fire department had dispatched crews following the missing-person report, as reported by Dallas Express. Responders believed the woman may have entered the lake and conducted an extensive search of the water and surrounding area.
The Lewisville Fire Department Dive Team located the woman in the water approximately 20 feet from the shoreline early Monday morning. Per the Lewisville Police Department, the recovery happened on Sept. 14, 2026, and the Tarrant County Medical Examiner is expected to release her identity. KENS5 reports the body was recovered early Monday morning.
Multiple Agencies Joined the Water Search
Texas Game Wardens and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers helped search across the water, the shore and inland areas, according to the same KENS5 report. The Dallas Express account similarly described crews from the Lewisville Fire Department and Lewisville Police Department joining Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens and the Army Corps of Engineers in the effort. Specialized equipment included multiple rescue boats equipped with sonar, water drones combing the shoreline and shallow areas, and unmanned aircraft systems providing aerial reconnaissance, the outlet noted.
Texas Game Wardens became the lead agency investigating the death, according to the Dallas Express account. Lewisville police said they consulted with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department personnel during the process, according to the department's Facebook statement. The Dallas Express account described Texas Game Wardens as joining the operation.
Identity Withheld Pending Family Notification
Officials have not released the woman's identity. The fire department did not share additional details about her, citing the family's privacy and the pending medical examiner review, per the Dallas Express report. That account also noted the woman's family and loved ones had been notified or were being addressed through the formal notification process.
Investigators said the final cause and manner of death remain subject to findings from the Tarrant County Medical Examiner, which have not yet been made public. Police have said the evidence points to a self-inflicted gunshot wound and that investigators found no evidence of foul play, though the medical examiner's official determination is still pending.
