Folks in Fort Worth, Texas are gearing up for the local public library's Spring Reading Challenge. The initiative encourages people to dive nose-first into books across various genres and topics. Starting now, participants can sign up and track their progress using the Beanstack app, as reported by the City of Fort Worth.
It seems the Fort Worth Public Library is inviting both kids and adults to get into the reading frenzy. Challenges pile up in the Beanstack app, offering a variety of badges upon completion. And for the bibliophiles, even reading time with the kids at home counts. "Story time with the kids – at the Library or home - counts as reading minutes for everyone involved," noted the City of Fort Worth.
To complete the challenge, participants need to earn a minimum of three badges, one of which must attest to their reading – the rest can stem from activities related to STEM, local explorations, or boosting their job skills. The reading bar is set, with youngsters needing to clock in at least 100 minutes and adults doubling that with a minimum of 200 minutes. The library promises a free book for everyone who crosses the finish line, adding a permanent piece to their collections.
And there's a twist for the creatively talented. Readers can morph their artistic energy into designing bookmarks. "Feeling creative? Share your love of reading and submit original artwork in the bookmark contest," the City of Fort Worth encourages. Winners across different age brackets can see their art printed on the official library bookmarks come summer.
Interested literary enthusiasts should make haste, as both the Spring Reading Challenge and the bookmark contest are set to conclude on March 31.
