Brace yourselves, Garland residents – roadwork is kicking off at Miller and Glenbrook, and it's shaping up to be a real pain for commuters. Beginning March 11, expect to see a chokepoint on Miller Road where traffic is getting squeezed down to one lane each way in the stretch from Saturn Road to Edgefield Drive. This is due to a laundry list of upgrades including water, sewer system work, and drainage improvements, not to mention repaving that battered stretch of asphalt.
The nuisance, according to the City of Garland, isn’t a fleeting one – this setup is on the books through mid-July, with weather on their side. And here’s the kicker, Glenbrook Drive's getting the axe too, at least just south of where it crosses paths with Miller for the duration of this phase. But hold your horses, there's more disrupting the peace; Phase 1 is only the beginning. Once that wraps, road crews will be rolling further west on Miller out to Ridgecrest Drive. The city's alert notes they’ll dish out the dirty details on that as they close the chapter on this first bout of inconvenience.
For those who want to keep an eagle eye on how this unfolds – or just need to groan collectively with their fellow drivers – updates will be served up over at the official City of Garland’s website. They promise to post new info as they get a grip on when this urban gauntlet will end, and exactly what fresh hell Phase 2 has in store.
