Garland's very own Heather Lambert, a Parks & Recreation Department powerhouse, has bagged not one, but two esteemed recognitions at the Texas Recreation and Park Society annual Institute & Expo. The local supervisor at Holford Recreation Center struck gold with the Presidential Award of Honor and the Presidential Coin during the event in Galveston, held from Feb. 26 to March 1, according to the City of Garland.

Lambert, who's dedicated over two decades to the TRAPS North planning committee, was lauded with the Presidential Award of Honor by none other than the outgoing TRAPS President, as a token of appreciation for her continuous support during, and even beyond their tenure. Furthermore, as a part of the committee's first-time tradition, she was given the inaugural Presidential Coin for her exemplary contribution to the NRPA Conference's Local Host Committee back in October 2023.

This recognition springs not just from her time served but also from her initiatives that transcend mere participation – to the shaping of an inclusive park culture in Texas. One such endeavor was leading the charge as committee chair for Off-Site Education Institutes and Leisure Tours at the NRPA Conference in Dallas. Lambert's leadership shone as she spearheaded the creation and execution of an accessibility survey, a proactive step in knocking down barriers for individuals with disabilities.

The survey was pivotal, and helped the committee in making informed decisions to accommodate all participants, ensuring no one missed out on the conference's offerings. Lambert, keen on inclusivity and equal access, said in a statement obtained by the City of Garland, "This survey allowed the committee to identify barriers that individuals with disabilities may encounter while participating, and create accommodations to ensure a successful experience for everyone." Her efforts exemplify the spirit of TRAPS and its dedicated members, who aim to enhance recreational experiences for all Texans.
