Authorities have put a damper on a major drug operation in Laurens County, Georgia, following the arrest of two individuals connected to narcotics trafficking. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) announced the arrests of Ramon Wright, 34, and Lakeisha Butler, 32, both residents of Laurens County. They're facing charges of trafficking in both methamphetamine and cocaine, capping off a joint probe that spanned several law enforcement agencies.
The investigation, which kicked off on February 8, was a collaborative effort involving the GBI’s Southeastern Regional Drug Enforcement Office (SRDEO), the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, and the Dublin Police Department. According to a statement by the GBI, it took nearly a month to painstakingly gather enough evidence to obtain arrest warrants for Wright and a search warrant for a property located on the 1800 block of Old Macon Road in Montrose. When law enforcement swung into action on March 11, they hit pay dirt, seizing substantial quantities of suspected drugs – 1.2 pounds of cocaine and 2.5 pounds of methamphetamine.
Following the bust, both Wright and Butler were promptly booked into the Laurens County Jail, dealing a significant blow to the local drug distribution network. The GBI's press release heralds this operation as a push to undermine the street level drug scene in Laurens County and to foster a community where law-abiding citizens can thrive without the blight of narcotics trade.
