Get ready for some a-peel-ing fun, Gilbert! The town is rolling out a quirky banana-themed art installation in the Heritage District from April 1 to May 2. Visitors strolling down Hearne Way, just east of Gilbert Road, will soon be able to rest their heels in a whimsical fruit stop, slipping into some springtime whimsy.
The eye-catching installation, dubbed "Slip into Spring," is eight feet tall and thirteen feet wide, featuring a modular banana that offers various seating options. According to the Town of Gilbert, during the day, guests can soak up the sunshine and by night, sit beneath captivating hoop lights.
In collaboration with Austin-based LeMonde Studios, best known for their green entertainment solutions that blend interactive art and eco-friendly fun, the installation aims to draw visitors to the thriving core of the district. Accommodating up to six guests, the centerpiece is a peeled banana with comfortable seating and, for smaller parties, an adjacent solo banana seat holds up to three.
Adding to the attraction is a unique musical element involving a mushroom crank-powered music box echoing the tunes of the Gilbert Symphony Orchestra. As per the Town of Gilbert, "Cowboys," the featured song, promises to deliver a jovial Southwestern-inspired melody that pairs perfectly with the charming ambiance of downtown Gilbert.
Throughout its display, the community is being rallied to spread the word about "Slip into Spring" on social media with the hashtag #DiscoverGilbert. Merchant specials and other season-inspired offerings are also up for grabs during this period, all detailed on DiscoverGilbert.com. With activities and events lined up, making a stop at the Heritage District this spring might just be the perfect way to peel away from the routine for locals and visitors alike.
