A Glendale man lies on life support as the aftermath of a hit-and-run casts a grim shadow over his family. Martin Hawkins, 62, is battling for his life in the hospital with critical head and body injuries after being struck by a car on Thursday evening near 67th Avenue and Mountain View Road.
The collision, which threw Martin off his motorcycle, occurred at around 6:30 p.m. After the crash, the driver responsible initially fled the scene. Glendale police, however, confirmed the individual was later found and hospitalized as a precaution, and although details about the driver and potential charges have not been disclosed, police have indicated that impairment does not appear to be a factor in the accident, as reported by AZ Family.
Martin's wife, Caserina Hawkins, expresses her devastation while clinging to hope for her husband's recovery. "I can't lose him," she said in an interview obtained by ABC15. "That's my heart and soul." According to Caserina, Martin, who she describes as a family man who "loves his kids, his grandkids, loves his motorcycle almost as much as his kids," was not wearing a helmet when the crash happened, a detail that heightens the tragedy of the event.
Caserina's focus, amid this turmoil, is both on her husband's health and a broader call to action on road safety. "All I wish is that people would look out for motorcycles," she told AZ Family. The family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to support Martin's recovery, emphasizing the lack of medical insurance and the daunting financial ordeal ahead.
