Gwinnett County Police brought an intense chase to an end with a PIT maneuver, corralling two suspects connected to a carjacking and shooting incident in Suwanee. The suspects were captured after leading authorities through a high-speed pursuit that began when officials identified a vehicle stolen late February being driven by the duo near South Berkely Lake Road and South Old Peachtree Road, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
Once the stolen vehicle, spotted by Flock cameras after the incident on Feb. 25, evaded initial attempts at interception, law enforcement resorted to the PIT maneuver, they successfully spun the car around, disabled it which brought it to a stop, at which point 19-year-old James Steven Casey and 22-year-old Deundrey Marques Everett made a break fleeing on foot; however, their freedom was short-lived as the police nabbed them after a brief chase, according to details shared by Gwinnett Daily Post.
The subsequent apprehension led to a swath of charges against the suspects; Casey faces allegations including evading police, reckless driving, and several gang-related charges, while Everett's charges include obstruction of law enforcement and intent to distribute marijuana. Both men are being held at the Gwinnett County Jail, with the specter of additional charges looming from prior misdeeds in Suwanee.
During the hectic pursuit, law enforcement tracked the vehicle across numerous thoroughfares, taking them down Buford Highway, South Old Peachtree Road, North Berkeley Lake Road, South Berkeley Lake Road and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, an attempt that undoubtedly placed other civilians at potential risk as the chase unfolded through Peachtree Corners area, the intense operation culminated when the stolen vehicle's desperate flight was put to a halt by the precise intervention of Gwinnett's finest, this according to official police reports.
