Heads up, Chestnut Hill drivers! Starting at the end of this week, road work is kicking off at the intersection of Winston Road and Mermaid Lane, meaning you'll want to brace for possible delays and detours. According to a recent update from the Streets Department, crews from Seravalli Inc. Contractors will get down to business replacing the historical street's worn granite blocks, a job that's expected to last anywhere from one to two months.
While they're digging into the restoration, you'll see some lane closures - these will be popping up along Winston Road between Mermaid Lane and Germantown Avenue as well as on Mermaid Lane between Winston Road and Germantown Avenue, although traffic's supposed to keep flowing somehow they'll have temporary lane closures to make it happen which might just test your patience if you're in a rush. Detour signs are set to guide you around the construction site, so keep your eyes peeled for those.
This isn't just any street work, it's part of the City Streets Department Historic Street Restoration project, and yes, it's your tax dollars at work here with both City and State funding backing up the facelift. The hope is that once they're done, those historical stones will be looking as sharp as they once did, way back when.
The Streets Department isn't blind to the inconvenience this is gonna cause; they're already thanking Chestnut Hill residents for their "patience and cooperation during this project." But you know how it is, a little pain for a long-term gain, as they're working to return a piece of the city's charm back to its former glory we just have to suck it up and try not to let the slower traffic spoil our day.
