A Homestead Police officer, Officer Diego Quiroga, has been cuffed with a battery charge after a domestic spat took a violent turn, authorities said. The cop, 39, was arrested on February 29 for aggravated battery, as documented in court records.
Quiroga argued with his wife over texts and infidelity leapt from words to blows, leading to his wife sustaining a gash on her cheek, according to Homestead police. After she pelted him with punches and scratches, Quiroga reportedly shoved her causing the injury.
The tale twists, however, with Quiroga's wife claiming that her injury resulted not from a defensive move but when her phone, hurled by Quiroga, struck her, detailed in an NBC Miami report. She further alleged that Quiroga cornered her in a bathroom and she had to use a shower curtain rod to keep him at bay.
In the wake of the accusations, the Homestead Police Department acted, slapping Quiroga on administrative leave sans salary. "The Homestead Police Department is committed to conducting a thorough and impartial investigation into this matter," the department declared in a statement obtained by NBC Miami. They promised, if necessary, measures will be taken.
According to a CBS Miami report, the Homestead PD is awaiting the outcome of the investigation by the state attorney’s office with bated breath. "Incidents of this nature are taken very seriously by the Homestead Police Department," assured the department, highlighting their commitment to the ideals of integrity and accountability.
