Houston residents can expect to see a mix of weather conditions early this week, with showers and thunderstorms predicted to give way to sunny skies. According to the National Weather Service, today's forecast indicates a 60% chance of precipitation with possible thunderstorms before 11 am. Despite the turbulent start, the sun is slated to break through the clouds, with temperatures peaking near 78 degrees and winds gusting as high as 30 mph.
On the maritime front, Houstonians are advised to exercise caution. The National Weather Service Houston warns of hazardous winds and seas, following a tumultuous night where offshore conditions saw seas nearing 11 feet. These rough seas are expected to gradually subside heading into Tuesday, but swimmers and small vessel operators should remain vigilant as swells may persist off the coast.
The weather outlook for Tuesday is brighter, with sunny conditions and a high near 72 degrees on the forecast. Lighter winds from the north are also expected, according to the National Weather Service's detailed forecast for Houston. The fair weather is set to continue, with Wednesday and Thursday offering partly sunny to sunny skies and steady temperatures in the mid-70s.
Despite the promising daytime weather, the Storm Prediction Center highlights the potential for severe weather conditions in the region. "There is a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms across parts of the Central Gulf Coast and portions of the Midwest/Southern Great Lakes" the forecast discussion mentions.
The hazardous weather isn't just limited to thunderstorms. Warnings for damaging winds and the chance for a tornado or two are also on the radar for areas along and near the central Gulf Coast. Houston may see a brief respite from the severe conditions moving into the midweek.
