Houston authorities are ramping up their hunt for the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a pedestrian in Spring Branch yesterday evening. The incident, which happened around 8 p.m. in the 7400 block of Long Point Road, left a man dead at the scene in a chilling display of hit-and-run callousness, officials said.
According to police reports, the victim was attempting to cross the poorly lit street when a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup, barreling down the road at an excessive speed, struck him with lethal force. The force of the impact hurled the man into a business parking lot, with the driver of the pickup fleeing without pausing to offer assistance, as FOX 26 Houston reported.
Surveillance cameras captured footage of the gruesome aftermath, showing the suspect's vehicle continuing eastbound without any signs of stopping. "Officials said they have video following the collision showing the driver of the pickup truck continued to go and didn't appear to slow down at all," as FOX 26 Houston stated.
While there was no crosswalk where the victim was crossing, it's believed the man lived locally and was just trying to navigate his neighborhood. The Houston Police Department urged anyone with details about the deadly collision to come forward, mentioning the lack of a crosswalk in the area fatally struck the pedestrian, as KIAH reported.
Officials are now making an appeal to the public in hopes of tracking down the individual behind the wheel of the Silverado.
