An Indiana man, identified as David Scott Kuntz, has been cuffed on felony and misdemeanor counts for his role during the chaotic Jan. 6, 2021, storming of the Capitol. 53-year-old Kuntz from Elizabeth, Indiana, was pinched by the FBI and hauled before a judge in the Southern District of Indiana after the feds slapped him with obstruction of an official proceeding—a heavy-duty felony—plus other smaller fish to fry misdemeanors for entering and lingering in a restricted building and for his rowdy conduct on those hallowed grounds, the feds say he called out “F— the police!” as he joined the fray by the Parliamentarian Door which, along with his social media chatter, painted a pretty clear picture of his intentions that fateful day.
Caught on video, Kuntz sported a grim reaper emblazoned vest amidst the mob at the Capitol, previous Facebook musings of his indicated a premeditated plan to "go fully armed" to D.C. for what he dubbed "our day" on January 20, a plot seemingly recalibrated to January 6 following the clash of political tides, where Kuntz voiced belief in social chats that "shit will get crazy," as per the Department of Justice's report on Kuntz's arrest.
The DOJ alongside the National Security Division's Counterterrorism Section is playing hardball with the prosecution, Kuntz’s arrest paper trail shows he wasn’t shy about his agenda, he even responded to Trump's beckoning tweet for protestors to convene, asserting “He is asking us to be there,” signaling a ready and armed attendance, indicating a deliberate response from militia groups like the Three Percenters with which he is associated, court documents revealed.
With the score past 1,358 individuals charged about the Capitol breach, including over 486 indictments for combatting the fuzz, Kuntz’s bust adds yet another stat to a list that spans nearly every state in the Union as the investigation drags on, a stark reminder of the breadth of zealotry's spread and an ongoing reckoning with the day democracy faced down a homegrown tempest.
