A chilling discovery in west Phoenix last week has authorities searching for answers after a dead fetus was found abandoned on a neighborhood street. Phoenix Police Department was called to the scene near 75th Avenue and Indian School Road around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, concerning a report of a deceased body found, as per FOX 10 Phoenix.
The troubling discovery marked the third body found within the area in a week, with earlier incidents involving the death of a 44-year-old woman and a male, whose body turned up near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. While the police don't suspect foul play in those cases, the investigation into the fetus remains ongoing, with the age and other details yet to be determined, according to a report from ABC15 News.
In response to the grim finding, investigators are working closely with the Office of the Medical Examiner. "At this time there is not an [approximate] age of the fetus," a Phoenix Police spokesperson stated, highlighting the early stage of the inquiry. The remains were collected by the Medical Examiner in order to conduct an autopsy, which will potentially provide more clarity on the circumstances surrounding the fetus's demise.
The area where the fetus was discovered has since been reopened to the public. The Phoenix PD has not provided further details at this time, keeping the investigation tightly under wraps as detectives work to unravel the story behind this disconcerting event. "Officers located the scene and detectives are responding to assume the investigation," said in a X post from Patrick Hayes, reporting on the incident for Phoenix PD.
