A historical gem crafted by America's iconic architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, is up for sale in Kankakee, Illinois, bearing a price tag just shy of $800,000. Real estate agent Victoria Krause Schutte, affiliated with @properties, is tasked with finding a new owner for the Warren Hickox House, a Prairie-style creation located roughly an hour's drive from the Windy City. In a statement obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times, Schutte waxed lyrical about the property, calling it "a living, breathing piece of art."

Listed for $779,000, this residential artwork nestles in the 680 block of South Harrison Avenue; its last sale was recorded back in 1976. Schutte, whose interview with Fox 32 Chicago noted the distinctive features of the home, including tall ceilings and an octagonal dining room, vouched for the house's integrity, with most elements remaining as the famous architect intended. As Wright ushered in his Prairie style, this house represented an inflection point in his storied career. The first showing of the house was held Monday, which Schutte predicts will charm buyers both near and far.

While much of the house maintains its original charm, an updated kitchen stands as one of the few concessions to modernity. Schutte highlighted to Fox 32 Chicago, that although the house conveys a "Victorian feel," it is set apart by its distinctive roof inspired by Japanese geometry and the first-floor library's unique design.

Prospective buyers with an interest in the Hickox House, according to Schutte's insights to the Chicago Sun-Times, are expected to have a taste as unique as the property itself. Even garnering attention from international clients as distant as Dubai, the home's reputation, preserved by community legend, has not allowed visitors for over five decades, adding to its allure. Schutte described this quality, alongside elements such as the original lead-lined windows, as contributors to the house's distinct character and energy.

Near the Hickox abode lies Wright's equally notable B. Harley Bradley House, also erected in 1900, and later opened for public admiration in 2010 by the nonprofit Wright in Kankakee. Unlike the Bradley House, which has embraced a public life, the Hickox House has been a private treasure since its inception, reportedly filled with love and warmth, having been a family residence for the owners who have cozily nestled there since the 1970s.
