Get your running shoes ready, Kennesaw! The city has just rolled out the red carpet for its 2024 Grand Prix 5K series. If you're itching for that adrenaline hit, or just want to enjoy a leisurely trot through North Georgia’s idyllic streets and parklands, look no further. Catering to competitive runners gunning for a spot in the Peachtree Road Race, and welcoming beginners and families alike, this 5K series is as inclusive as they come.
According to a recent announcement, this year’s lineup features the Fit City 5K on May 11, Summer Sun Run 5K on June 8, Harvest Hustle 5K on September 28, and the Nightmare on Main 5K on October 26. Not only are the races scheduled to be swift and flat, they are professionally timed and USAT&F Certified, adding a dash of legitimacy to personal bests and record-setting attempts.
The races rev up at the Kennesaw First Baptist Church, boasting ample parking and facilities to ease runners into the starting blocks. Pacing the pavement begins bright and early with a one-mile fun run at 7:30 a.m., the 5K main event at 8 a.m., and a pint-sized Tot Trot at 8:55 a.m. If that's not enough to get you lacing up, each race convenes an award ceremony at 9:15 a.m., shining the spotlight on victors across multiple categories and age groups - from sprightly youths to mature masters.
Runners seeking more than just glory and a good sweat can also score some swag. As per the official city's statement, devotees completing three of the four races will bag themselves a bespoke Kennesaw Grand Prix branded gift. For those counting pennies, a budget-friendly $30 early bird registration is available, or a series pass for $105 - each comes with that all-important race day t-shirt. Competitors who prefer to procrastinate can sign up for the steeper fee of $35 per race closer to the date.
Proudly presented by CROY Engineering and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, with support from the likes of Cobb Sports Alliance and Viva Chicken, these races aren't just about who crosses the finish line first. It's a community affair, part of the Fit City Kennesaw initiative, designed to inspire residents to lead healthier, more active lives. So whether you're set to sprint or more content with a canter, Kennesaw’s Grand Prix 5K is shaping up to be the local event that gets everyone moving.
