The quiet of a Kennesaw neighborhood was shattered just after midnight Friday when a 21-year-old man was gunned down, marking the town's first homicide since 2019. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Sanifu Henry succumbed to a gunshot wound after being rushed to Kennestone Medical Center, unable to survive his injuries. The incident occurred in the 2600 block of McGuire Drive, a stone's throw from Kennesaw Elementary School.
Following the gunfire, Kennesaw police swiftly apprehended two suspects, Zier Xzavier Green, 18, and Re’Shard Marquis Lee, 19. The pair face charges including murder, aggravated assault, and multiple drug-related offenses, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta. An echo of violence not heard in years in this community, the last murder in Kennesaw had happened back in September of 2019, close to the current crime scene.
Officers arrived at the scene to discover evidence scattered along the roadway, corroborating reports of the shooting. "Officers got the call about gunfire...they found evidence in the roadway, confirming gunfire had occurred," said Officer David Buchanan, spokesperson for the Kennesaw Police, in a statement reported by AJC.
The city of Kennesaw, reeling from the abrupt end of a young life, is seeking closure as the Kennesaw Police Department calls for any information that the public can provide.
