A woman is fighting for her life after she was allegedly stabbed by two children, ages 7 and 12, on a quiet street in northwest Harris County this past Saturday, a horrifying incident captured in part on neighborhood surveillance video, confirmed Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. The attack took place in the victim's garage on April Valley Court and was immediately followed by the young suspects fleeing on bicycles, KHOU reported.
Neighbors describe preexisting tensions and confrontations involving the 59-year-old woman, who is known to have mental health concerns, the community's attempt to maintain peace despite these challenges and their reliance on law enforcement support were captured by Maddy Monsalve who said, "We try to keep patience. We are understanding even though it's very frustrating and we all have to call the cops, not just me, other neighbors have too, we try to have patience," as reported by KHOU.
The victim's family, who ensures she's checked on daily due to her fragile mental state, discovered her wounded after the assault; her brother's arrival was distressingly timely as he found her injured shortly after the event according to Sergio Torres, an investigator with the Harris County Sheriff's Office, who shared with ABC13. The Sheriff's Office has yet to release information on the charges the young suspects might face as they await a response from the District Attorney's office.
Surveillance footage has been critical in shedding light on the case, showing a verbal altercation between the victim and the two boys prior to the attack, neighbors intervening, and the chilling moment the children, donning surgical gloves, returned to commit the act. Subsequent to the incident, deputies were seen outside a nearby home, escorting one of the boys from a patrol car into the house, though it remains unconfirmed whether this residence is connected to the suspects involved in the stabbing.
