Just as the clock neared the strike of 5pm at a Walgreens in Los Gatos-Monte Sereno, a pair of quick-handed thieves found their shoplifting spree abruptly ended by local law enforcement, according to the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department. Acting on an alert, officers swooped in soon after the duo's sticky fingers pocketed items off the shelves, nabbing them just as they attempted to slip into their escape car.
In what proved to be an ill-fated heist, the officers repossessed the swiped goods, items that didn't only hail from Walgreens but also from a Safeway store ransacked by the culprits moments earlier; these discoveries were pieced together at the scene, as the officers inventoried the recovered merchandise, and despite their quick response, it raises questions about the growing trend of retail thefts. Both individuals were hauled off to the Santa Clara County Main Jail, facing charges of organized retail theft, a crime that's too common in the current retail landscape, particularly in California, where groups have become more brazen.
