Early Saturday morning in Roxbury, a traffic stop by the Youth Violence Strike Force led to the arrest of a 20-year-old man on drug trafficking charges, after officers discovered over 100 grams of fentanyl on his person. Abel Severino Reyes of Lynn, now faces serious time behind bars following the bust.
It all went down around 12:35 AM, when boys in blue spotted a vehicle racing down the Massachusetts Avenue Connector. The official response was swift, lights flashing and sirens blaring, as they pulled the speedster over. Reyes, along with four others in the car, were thrown into the spotlight, none of them wearing seat belts, according to a report by Boston Police Department. The driver couldn't even produce a driver's license.
Things escalated when one passenger refused to roll down his window, prompting the officers to order everyone out of the car. Reyes resisted at first but eventually stepped out, only to be frisked by officers. They hit pay dirt—a hefty 101 grams of fentanyl, hidden in his jacket pocket. This wasn't just pocket change, but a king's ransom in narcotics.
Reyes couldn't dodge the law this time. He was cuffed, taken in, and now waits for his day in court on trafficking charges. A Boston Municipal Court judge will soon be weighing his fate. Meanwhile, the streets are a tad cleaner today, thanks to the diligent work of Boston's finest.
