A routine traffic patrol in Roxbury resulted in the arrest of a 25-year-old man for firearm-related charges yesterday evening. According to a report by Boston Police, Marquice Rivera of Lynn was apprehended on Seaver Street and Humboldt Avenue after officers observed suspicious behavior.
Boston officers were on their usual patrol when they saw a vehicle hastily exiting and re-entering a parking lot. The driver, later identified as Rivera, parked the car, left the engine running and began to walk away at a quick pace. After failing to produce a driver's license upon request from the officers, Rivera was placed under arrest, and the police approached the vehicle.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, a firearm was discovered inside. According to the Boston Police Department's official statement, the Ruger LCP 380 handgun was found with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine. Rivera now faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
The traffic stop also involved questioning a second individual who was in the passenger seat during the incident. This person was unable to provide an active driver's license, but they were released from the scene shortly thereafter. Rivera, on the other hand is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court. The Boston Police Department has not reported any additional arrests in connection with the recovery of the firearm.
