In an early morning disturbance in Macomb County, a teen faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after a break-in and vehicle theft spree. 18-year-old Victor Villegas of Lenox Township was arraigned on Tuesday, facing charges including two counts of home invasion and motor vehicle theft, Macomb Daily reports.
According to the FOX 2 news outlet, the incident unfolded in New Haven's Amherst Subdivision, where the sheriff's deputies responded to a homeowner's complaint of noises and suspicious activity in her basement around 4:45 a.m. Villegas and an accomplice fled, the former crashing a stolen GMC Acadia moments later, leading to his apprehension. The driver, however, remains at large, authorities said.
During the arraignment, Villegas was slapped with a slew of charges outlined by the clickondetroit. These include six counts breaking-and-entering to steal property less than $200, one count breaking-and-entering to steal property $200-$1,000, and two counts of first-degree home invasion—a serious 20-year felony.
Recovered items from the stolen SUV and Villegas's possession pointed to a haphazard trail of theft through the suburban enclave. As law enforcement marshals its forces in pursuit of the second suspect, residents reel from a convulsion of local crime. Villegas, on a $20,000 personal bond, now carries the weight of the law, tethered by GPS monitoring as a condition of his release.
With a probable cause conference slated for April 18, the young defendant also faces additional charges in an unrelated malicious destruction of personal property over $200 case, further complicating his legal troubles.
