A man was left dead in a solo vehicle accident on Franklin Canyon Road, Martinez, authorities said Sunday.

The California Highway Patrol’s Contra Costa division reported that a Honda Pilot was eastbound before it veered off the road and struck a tree near McEwen Road. The accident, which claimed an adult male's life, occurred on Saturday at around 9:28 am. The CHP stated that the man was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, which they believe might have contributed to the fatal outcome.

Upon receiving the incident report, both CHP and emergency personnel rushed to the scene. Tragically, the driver was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival. “Our initial investigation indicates the driver was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash,” a representative for CHP Contra Costa stated in a report published early Sunday.

The authorities have yet to release the name of the deceased as the investigation into the accident continues. CHP Contra Costa urges anyone who may have witnessed the crash or any events leading up to it to come forward. Witnesses can contact them at (925) 646-4980 or via email at [email protected] for the investigating officer to reach out.
