In the dead of night, a man's life was tragically cut short on the streets of Antioch, California. According to information released by the Antioch Police Department, at 01:31 AM on March 17, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a Kia sedan. After the collision in the 1800 block of Wilbur Avenue, the driver did not stay to face the aftermath, choosing instead to flee and evade the responsibility of such a destructive act.
Witnesses' statements and evidence have been gathered by the authorities, trying to piece together the details of the incident in a grim puzzle that would reveal the complete picture to the ones left behind. Once on the scene, officers' attempted life-saving efforts were a stark contrast to the earlier abandonment, as they administered first aid until the Contra Costa Fire Protection District paramedics arrived. However, despite their attempts, the victim, whom emergency personnel pronounced deceased at the scene, could not be saved.
The identity of the deceased male remains a secret guarded by the necessity of respect for those who will reel from the news, as next-of-kin notifications are still pending. The Antioch Police Department, now overseers of an active hit-and-run investigation, is asking for the public's assistance. Inquiries about the incident and calls for justice are directed toward Sergeant R. Green and Officer J. Egan of the Traffic Unit.
