
Tragedy struck the Montavilla Neighborhood as one man's life was cut short in a daylight shooting. Officials said the incident unfolded on the afternoon of Monday, March 25, 2024. First responders rushed to the intersection of Northeast 93rd Avenue and Northeast Glisan Street around 4:25 p.m. following reports of gunfire, according to a statement from the Portland Police Bureau.
The responding East Precinct officers found a man wounded critically by at least one bullet. Lifesaving measures were attempted on the scene by the officers, but the victim's injuries were too severe, he died before he could be transferred to medical facilities. As of now, the shooter remains at large, with no arrests made and no suspects detained.
An investigation into the fatal shooting has commenced, led by the Portland Police Bureau's Homicide Unit. As detectives were scouring the area for evidence, part of Northeast Glisan Street was shut down, stretching from Northeast 90th Avenue to I-205, to facilitate a thorough examination of the crime scene.
Residents and commuters faced disruptions due to the ongoing investigation, with roads closed and an air of unease hanging over the neighborhood. The police have yet to release the identity of the individual who was pronounced dead at the scene, pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about this shooting to come forward to assist in bringing the perpetrator to justice.
