A man is fighting for his life after a suspected drunk driver plowed into two parked vehicles on a San Antonio interstate late Wednesday night. The dangerous crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. on the I-35 exit to Northeast Loop 410 near Binz Engelman, sending several to the hospital.

The chain-reaction collision started when, according to Fox San Antonio, a Buick Enclave broke down and was parked in the emergency lane while its owner, a 34-year-old man, alongside his brother, tried making repairs. A Ford truck, driven by a 45-year-old man, veered off from the main lanes, slamming into both the Buick and the GMC Sierra, which was also parked in the emergency lane to assist.

The impact sent the disabled Buick careening, which hit the Buick's driver who was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Police who arrived at the scene found the Ford's driver to be intoxicated and arrested him under charges of intoxication assault.

While the identity of the Ford driver hasn't been released, KSAT reported that the arrested individual is a 45-year-old male, providing clarity that the aftermath of what should have been a roadside fix became a careless act of intoxication assault.

As the investigation unfolds, updates will be forthcoming.
